Punjab United was formed by Tarsem Kandola (Terry) and Tarsem Basra (Bha Ji) in 1966, the very same year as England's momentous World Cup Triumph. Like many from the Indian community at the time, both originated from the Punjab state in North India.
Terry and Bha Ji decided to ask all the youngsters (mainly in Whitmore Reans at the time) if they were interested in representing their homeland by playing in a Football Team. There was a lot of enthusiasm and many of them put their names forward for a place in the team. One day everyone met for the very first training session, and afterwards a meeting took place to discuss the formation of a club. Many names were suggested, but Punjab United Football Club was eventually agreed upon.
With each passing season the club grew and grew, attracting strong Asian players from many different backgrounds. Punjab progressed through the amateur leagues, eventually becoming a permanent fixture in the Wolverhampton Leagues, progressing from Division 5 to the Premier League Division - winning it on the way. Punjab United successfully played in the Premier Division for many years, culminating in a League Cup Final appearance at the old Molineux Stadium in 1975.
